“I’ve been Kamryn's Big Sister for the past year and a half... a lot of things we have done together have been firsts for Kamryn... but one of our favorite activities is a spelling bee. As soon as she gets in the car, the spelling bee begins and before you know it we've pretty much run out of words…because this kid knows everything.” -- Such is the life of Big Sister Nancy Griffith and Little Sister Kamryn.
Giving a child a chance to reach his or her full potential is the root of mentoring. Enabling them to branch out and experience beneficial opportunities is the heart of a Big Brothers Big Sisters match. As Nancy says, “I have seen Kamryn become more
confident in herself. We have had a lot of good times, not only for her but for myself as well. It's been a really, really good experience for both of us.”
For Nancy (or any Big Brother or Big Sister) the ‘why’ can be summed up by the Forest Witcraft quote “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...but the world may be different, because I was important in the life of a child.”
